Agatha Christie, known as the “Queen of Mystery” in later years, was born in 1890 in Devon, England. She worked as a nurse during World War I and then in a dispensary, which informed her use of poisons in her stories. Agatha’s first mystery novel was published in 1920 and introduced her famous detective Hercule Poirot. Aside from being one of the best-selling authors of all time, she was also a playwright with the distinction of having written one of the longest-running plays. Agatha had a personal mystery as well—her sensational disappearance which set off a national search. Come hear her story presented by Anne McEvoy from Women in History.
